The shooting club returned from several tournaments this past month with good results.

On the Precision side, Jonna Warnken with the Hellgate Junior Shooters Club, did very well at Camp Perry Ohio for the Civilian Markmanship Program Nationals and Junior Olympic Nationals. The team finished the CMP in 3rd place in the nation and the JO in 5th place on the second day. The tournament included approx 290+ shooters from across the nation.

Directly from that tournament Jonna went to Grand Island, NE to attend the 4H Nationals Tournament. The format for this was a little different than we’re used to as most of the events were outdoors. Jonna did very well here considering she had never shot 2 of the events.

On the first day she shot the Smallbore Silhouette event where they were shooting 1/5 scale chicken, pig, turkey, and ram silhouettes at ranges varying from 40 to 100 yards. Day two had Jonna shooting the CMP Smallbore Sport event, where they shoot varying distances from 25-50 yards with slow and rapid firing cycles, where they were expected to shoot 5 shot strings in 25 seconds or less. Day 3’s event was the NRA 3p event, which was the only event that Jonna had previously shot, where she ended up shooting 11th in the nation.

The Sporter Team arrived at Camp Perry the day before Jonna had to leave for the 4H Nationals. Howie and Bailey have attended the CMP and JO National Matches previously, but it was Heath, Decker, and Paytons first time. Great experience. They were the youngest team there shooting against mostly Junior and Seniors.

Howie had a great first day ending up first in his age group and 1 point out of the final – ending up 9th for the Junior Olympics. Bailey ended up in 15th place for the same age group as Howie and 74th overall. The next day for the CMP Howie ended up 4th in his age group and 36th overall, with Bailey coming up in 2nd place for age group and 31st overall.

Both tournaments found Heath placing 4th in his age group, Decker in 5th, and Payton in 6th – in the nation.

This is the 3rd year in a row that we’ve come home with medals for age groups.

Overall a great ending to the season with some good direction on where we want to focus our efforts for next year.

We would like to thank everyone who has donated their time, effort, money, and moral support to help these kids attend these events. – we couldn’t do it without you.
