It was in question for awhile if the Federal Government would extend the tax incentives for energy saving home features for the 2008 building season. Well it's still in question, although the bill has made it through the House and is on it's way to the Senate. I have my hopes up.
The measures, if enacted, give either a percentage of material cost or a fixed amount back to the homeowner as a tax incentive. For instance, qualified exterior doors and windows give a tax incentive of 10% of material costs. On a typical residence this could amount for a possible tax incentive of $700-$1400. There are also tax incentives on insulation, roofing, and heating/cooling systems.
The most impressive tax incentives that are out there are the solar incentives; up to 30% of installed cost of the system. A typical solar water heating system costs approximately $5000-$6000, yet with the 30% tax incentive ends up being very similar to the cost of a typical tankless water heater. These incentives are currently in use and apply through 2014.
Additional tax incentives, up to $2000, are also available for the builder of energy efficient homes. We have committed to provide give backs to our clients of 75% of our federal approved tax incentive on qualified homes. The remaning 25% will go towards research and development of new segments of the home building industry as well as marketing of our Energy Star program.
